Overall, and I'm quoting here, "it's a simple story but well told with great performances from the cast and good songs that fit so snugly into the narrative they seem to be part of the dialogue" (Wilson, Heather).

The film also feature a couple of stunts with one being a lengthy one but it ain't difficult to watch. The second half, on the other hand, is livelier and several characters show increased dynamism The film's music is composed by Bijibal, a National Award winning music director, and he doesn't disappoint the audience at all. The first half tends to be blunt in nature and it is as if the film is struggling to form a relationship between the actors but it doesn't adversely affect viewer's experience. The story is told through an effective nonlinear narrative. Though the story is not completely novel, the director makes enough effort to deliver an entertainer. Fortunately, the lead cast played by Unni Mukundan, Dulquer Salmaan, and Namitha Pramod keeps the film going and boy, they are quite charismatic! Also, Santhosh Keezhattoor (as Kunjunni Menon) delivers an appreciable debuting performance. But as the story progresses, the film seems to lack the momentum it initially created. The movie starts off with a flashback and it turns out to be quite interesting. The film is a coming-of-age drama sprinkled with comical instances. The film ends with Adithyan and his family standing up against the people that once teased him as the "thief's son".ĭespite the hype it created, I watched the film without much expectations.

On the same day Vikraman (Unni Mukundan) was also born to Vasudeva Shenoy and his new wife. Lakshmi and Kunjunni however pretend to have an amicable marriage as she gives birth to Adithyan (Dulquer Salmaan). Lakshmi later comes to know that her husband had cheated her. Kunjunni Menon then convinces Lakshmi and her family to agree to marriage. In the meantime Kunjunni Menon (Santhosh Keezhattoor), a thief, who disguised as a police inspector, falls in love with Lakshmi. But he was appreciated for his performances in both his Hindi outings, Karwaan and The Zoya Factor. The film begins when Vasudeva Shenoy (Anoop Menon), a police constable by profession, proposes to his colleague Lakshmi (Lena) with a strong objection from Vasudeva Shenoy's mother. Bollywood beckoned, and like with his predecessors from Malayalam Cinema, Dulquer didn't find a favourable box office fate there. While already a popular actor for his looks, Dulquer's pan-India appeal increased with the success of his Tamil film, Mani Ratnam's OK Kanmani and in the Telugu biopic Mahanati. Mani Ratnam Birthday: From Kamal Haasan’s Nayakan to Dulquer Salmaan’s OK Kanmani, 6 Times Bollywood Looked to the Director’s Amazing Films for Inspiration! Despite both father and son reigning in Malayalam Cinema, Mammootty and Dulquer never took the gimmick of starring together in a film, though Dulquer sang a track in his father's film, Manglish. The successes of his subsequent films like ABCD, Bangalore Days, Vikramadithyan, Charlie etc turned him to a superstar and the darling of the classes and the masses. He gained stardom with his second film, Ustad Hotel, that not only impressed the critics but was also a hit.
